The Viksnins Scholarship was established in 2002 to honor Dr. George Viksnins and is a tribute to his leading role here at TFAS. In fact, โUncle Georgeโ taught the students in our Georgetown summer programs each year for over 30 years! He was also the 2002 recipient of our Walter Judd Freedom Award, following in the footsteps of other notables such as William F. Buckley, Jr., Jack Kemp, Jeane Kirkpatrick, and Ronald Reagan.
The Viksnins Scholarship Fund draws the funds needed to provide an annual scholarship for a student attending TFAS's intensive 8-week program in Washington, D.C.โฏ
Preference is given first to Latvian students, then to students from the Baltic states, followed by students of the former Soviet Bloc. This preference is due to Viksninsโs heritage and personal interest in these areas, especially in terms of their post-communism economic development.
